Glorious Day

It’s a glorious day in NYC.  Started the day with a coffee, followed by a soothing mani pedi.  After that, I strolled into my neighborhood bicycle shop for some shoes and pedals.  Followed that up with a ride over the Manhattan Bridge into DUMBO to see a good friend and his family.  Hung out in the new Brooklyn Bridge Park and soaked in the sun for awhile, rode through the Heights, and back over the Manhattan Bridge.  Relaxed in the afternoon strolling through Nolita with a girlfriend, then a beer on the deck.  Now waiting for other girlfriends to come over and cook and watch movies.

One of many wonderful days in NYC.

Checked our a Philips Norelco event in Madison Square Park this afternoon.  Carmen Electra was there shaving happy volunteers.  Can you believe she’s 38?

Funny how things turn out. First I was psyched that there was a crack of sunlight when I went for my 8:30pm swim. I also noted that it was the first time that it was bright enough to SEE the Hudson River while I walked to the pool, and that I’ll be training right next to the river until the day I take the plunge into that same river.
But soon after I took this photo all desire to swim escaped me. Maybe it’s the 1.5 hours of Bikram I’ve been doing every morning, or maybe it’s the launch of Gilt City that just all caught up to me. Swim training is my favorite but I just did. not. want. to swim today. Even when I got to poolside I didn’t want to go in the water.
But like I said, funny how things turn out. I ended up having a GREAT training session because something in my brain clicked and I completely understood what the coaches were telling me. As a result I noticed an improvement in my strokes. I entered the pool thinking I was gonna drown doing this tri and I left the pool super excited about the prospects of actually being able to do this. And I guess that’s the thing about tris and marathons, the moment you doubt yourself, you prove yourself wrong. And that’s the rewarding part; the part where you’re the only one holding yourself back and you’re the only one pushing you forward.

I’m proud of her.  Like I said, “you just need to train.”  Can’t wait to cheer her on in July.  I almost wish I was going to be right alongside her.

Checked this out the other night.  Felt totally uncool but the venue and event were definitely easy breezy cool.  Mishka, the performer, was unexpectedly soulful and enjoyable.   A perfectly relaxed setting in the middle of downtown NY.

Bagels

My co-worker asked if there was one food I could eat inordinate amounts of, without any negative consequence, what would it be?

At first I said french fries.  But after this mornings breakfast, I have been reminded of my true love - bagels.  I don’t know why, but I am obsessed with bagels.  I would eat it everyday if I could.

Sad Single Stories

Some personal observations:

  • I order delivery once a week, and every week I order from the same sushi place.  Each time the delivery guy comes to deliver my order, I open the door in my pajamas and sign for food for one.
  • My emergency contact, my cousin, for the last eight years has moved away from NYC.  I don’t have an emergency contact in my own city anymore.  What to do?
  • I am sitting at home, alone, watching reality TV shows on Bravo.  I also have four separate chat windows open with my other single girl friends.

I’m sure there are more to come…

Coffee is cheap.
Drinks is an audition.
Lunch is an interview.
Dinner is romance.

Patti Stanger, Millionaire Matchmaker

I love it when Bravo has the reunion specials with Andy Cohen.  Catching up on Millionaire Matchmaker.
